VERY BIG NEWS

In case you haven't heard, Juno is now an imprint of Pocket Books. The official announcement from Pocket is on the blog (http://juno-books.com/blog/?p=603).

If you are wondering what "co-publish" means, well...good question. The books will be published by Pocket (with Gertrude the kangaroo on the spine and the Juno logo on the back). The production, printing, marketing, and distribution are just the same as any Pocket mass market paperback.

I still acquire and edit the line, but a lot of great folks at Pocket are involved now, too. Chief among them is Senior Editor Jennifer Heddle. I'm sure she did not need anything else added to her job description, but she got stuck with Juno (and me) anyway. Things have been hectic, but have been falling into place. (I hope.)

Oh, and the first cover, for AMAZON INK by Lori Devoti is by our favorite cover artist, Tim Lantz!

NEW SCHEDULE

  • June 2009: Amazon Ink, Lori Devoti (first of series)
  • July 2009: Vicious Circle, Linda Robertson (first of a series)
  • August 2009: Demon Inside, Stacia Kane (second of series)
  • September 2009: reprint Matters of the Blood, Maria Lima (first of a series)
  • October 2009: reprint Blood Bargain, Maria Lima >(second of series)
  • November 2009: Blood Kin, Maria Lima >(third of series)
  • December 2009: Vampire Sunrise, Carole Nelson Douglas (third of series)
  • January 2010: Hallowed Circle, Linda Robertson (second in series)
Yes, Maria Lima's two "current releases" are going to be relaunched back-to-back -- one-two-three -- with the third.

OTHER BOOK NEWS

Sylvia Kelso's RIVERSEND (http://www.juno-books.com/riversend.html) should be available (at least directly from us) any day. (It already is an an ebook, see below.) It will be available in trade paperback right away and hardcover soon to follow. RIVERSEND's publication was delayed due to several acts of God including a freak flood in Sean Wallace's apartment.

As the last of the Wildside/Juno books, there will be no mass market version.

Although AMBERLIGHT did not win the Aurealis Award for Best Australian Fantasy Novel, the novel gained considerable critical acclaim and stirred discussion. Look for the same for RIVERSEND. If anything, the gender issues raised in this sequel are even more fascinating than those in the first book.

EBOOK NEWS

BRIMSTONE KISS (http://www.fictionwise.com/ebooks/eBook77850.htm) was added to Fictionwise in November, RIVERSEND (http://www.fictionwise.com/ebooks/eBook78416.htm) in December.

We don't know why Fictionwise dropped the ball on BLOOD BARGAIN, but it has - twice. It was supposed to be up today (http://www.fictionwise.com/ebooks/eBook81442.htm) but it appears not to be as I send this.

SUBMISSIONS

Yes, submissions are now re-opened. PLEASE READ THE UPDATED GUIDELINES and adhere to them. (http://juno-books.com/guidelines.html) Simon & Schuster/Pocket does not accept unagented/unsolicited manuscripts, but Juno still does. If, however, I am inundated with submissions that are outside the realm of what we are looking for, then that will probably have to stop.

I have a very few submissions that I asked to see full manuscripts on earlier that are still under consideration. Otherwise, anything received should have received a reply a long time ago.

Make sure your submission goes to the proper eddress! Again, check the guidelines!

WEB SITE

The Web site is somewhat updated. The updated sections are easily identifiable because they now have a red color scheme rather than the former light blue. It was a pretty "fast-and-dirty" update, so if you spot errors, let me know.

QUOTATION

"Many persons read and like fiction. It does not tax the intelligence and the intelligence of most of us can so ill afford taxation that we rightly welcome any reading matter which avoids this." -- Rose Macaulay (1881-1958) English novelist
