HOT TIME IN THE SUMMER

August is here and if summer temperatures aren't getting to you yet, we've just turned up the heat with the latest title from Pocket Juno: DEMON INSIDE by Stacia Kane. It's hot! So turn thermostat down or put some extra ice in your drink and have a Hades of a good read.

We know it's been a long wait. This sequel to PERSONAL DEMONS (published in April 2008) was -- under the "old" Juno -- scheduled for publication early this year. But our welcomed changeover to being a Pocket imprint necessitated the delay and we are sure DEMON INSIDE has been worth the wait!

The third "Megan Chase" book, DEMON POSSESSED, will be released February 23, 2010. Since we tortured you for all these months waiting for DEMON INSIDE: Megan Chase #2 -- and you can go to the Web site (http://juno-books.com/demon-inside.html) and read about it, read an excerpt, read reviews -- we might as well be a little demonish and whet your appetite (or torture you a smidgeon?) with an exclusive sneak peek description of #3:

A romantic weekend...or a date with hell?

Psychologist and psychic Megan Chase has grown remarkably comfortable as the leader of her very own demon "family." Her demons are happy, her solo practice is stabilizing, and she and her demon lover Greyson Dante are closer than ever. But when the couple books a week at a luxury hotel to attend a meeting of demon leaders, some unanticipated problems appear. An FBI agent with an unhealthy interest in less-than-legitimate demon business practices shows up. The demon community is urging her to undergo the rite that will make her a real demon, and a slightly shady minister is holding one of his wildly popular "Weekend Exorcisms" just down the road. And oh, yes, someone with scary magical abilities is attempting to kill her. Having her witch friend Tera and Greyson's sexy incubus friend Nick show up to help only complicates things further when a secret comes to light that jeopardizes Megan and Greyson's future -- if she manages to live that long. With things heating up, it's becoming difficult for Megan to keep a cool head...

Wicked, aren't we? Give into temptation. You just HAVE to read the first two books now, won't you?

CONTEST

I'm still planning to plan a contest to get more attention for the Web site, etc. But, for now, I thought we'd do something, well, different: an essay contest. The prize? A very rare ADVANCE READING COPY of PERSONAL DEMONS by Stacia Kane. How rare? Well, it's the only copy *I* have of it anyway. And we didn't have many printed. I can probably even persuade the author to sign it for you! Plus I'll throw in a $10.00 gift card to your online bookstore of choice.

Essay Subject: WHY I LOVE POCKET JUNO BOOKS

1) Your short (less than 350 words) essay needs to convincingly display that you've read AT LEAST two of the following books: Maria Lima's MATTERS OF THE BLOOD and/or BLOOD BARGAIN, Carole Nelson Douglas's DANCING WITH WEREWOLVES and/or BRIMSTONE KISS, Lori Devoti's AMAZON INK, Linda Robertson's VICIOUS CIRCLE, Stacia Kane's PERSONAL DEMONS and/or DEMON INSIDE.

2) The essay should be an appropriate message to other readers; an attempt to persuade them to try our books.

The Rules:

1) Send the 350-words-or-less essay in the body of an email to editor@juno-books.com with CONTEST ESSAY as the subject line.

2) Entries must be received by MIDNIGHT Eastern Time 1 September 2009.

3) By entering the contest you will be allowing your essay to be published on the Juno Books Web site (www.juno-books.com) with your name. (If you so desire, we will include a URL with your name.)

4) Slight editorial changes may be made with the essayist's approval before public posting.

5) You must be a current subscriber to this newsletter by the contest's deadline to enter.

6) Judging will be by me, Paula Guran, and my decision will be final. No bribing or sucking up to the judge. Won't work. Really. I want sincerity! (Or a reasonable facsimile.)

QUOTATION:

"All writers are vain, selfish and lazy, and at the very bottom of their motives lies a mystery. Writing a book is a long, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand." -- George Orwell (English novelist and essayist, 1903-1950)
