CHANGES & SCHEDULES (and New Acquisitions)
[Note 10.01.07: This Schedule is no longer accurate. See here for the current one.]
As usual, things are busy in Juno Land and we have even more news to
report than in previous issues. So much so we won't get to all of it
here!
If you recall, we've ventured into mass market publication. This
has necessitated some changes in our schedule and direction. We also
discovered we were (gasp!) human and simply could not physically
manage to produce as many books (and magazines) as we had projected.
Perhaps we took our "goddess-ly powers" a mite too seriously?
The good news is: We have, all of a sudden, five new books available,
two more on the way in September, and two more (slated for October)
coming soon.
Here's the new schedule --
(Asterisk * = In print and info pages on Web site;
hyphen - = page on Web site, in production.)
- * Jun 07: Euryale, Kara Dalkey (tp, reprint)
- * Jul 07: Twelve Steps from Darkness, Karen Taylor (tp)

- . Sep 08: Blood Memories, Maria Lima (Blood #2) (mmp)
- . Sep 08: From a High Redoubt, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro (TP, reprint)
Tentatively:
Dec 08: The Juno Book of Fantasy by Women: The 21st Century,
ed. Paula Guran
[Both EURYALE and TWELVE STEPS FROM DARKNESS are probably
best purchased either directly from us
or from Amazon or B&N.com.]
You will note that APRICOT BRANDY, BLACKNESS TOWER, WARRIOR WOMEN,
and HOUSE OF WHISPERS have been changed from trade paperbacks to
mass market paperbacks and moved into 2008; TENEBRAK and DECEITFUL
ORACLE have been dropped completely; FROM A HIGH REDOUBT moved
to much later in 2008.
There are also three NEW acquisitions by new authors: We
mentioned CLOCKWORK HEART by Dru Pagliasotti and PERSONAL DEMONS
by Stacia Kane previously. Chris Howard's SEABORN is also now
slated for publication. Chris has an extensive Web site/blog --
http://the0phrastus.typepad.com/-- where you can also see his
fine art
(http://the0phrastus.typepad.com/the0phrastus/2007/08/seaborn.html)
inspired by his writing (or maybe vice versa). We think you'll be
intrigued by what you see there!
We also have five sequels now scheduled:
- BRIMSTONE KISS (sequel to DANCING WITH WEREWOLVES),
- TOUCHING SILVER (sequel to CHASING SILVER),
- NIGHTS OF SIN (sequel to BLOOD MAGIC), RIVERSEND (sequel to
- AMBERLIGHT), and BLOOD MEMORIES (sequel to MATTERS OF THE BLOOD,
which is also being re-released in mass market pb).
Typically: Whew.
HELP!
We have two special requests for your help!
The first is to run out to your local chain store and buy copies
of BLOOD MAGIC as soon as it hits the shelves. Why? Other than it
is a terrific fantasy and we like to sell books, BLOOD MAGIC is our
first mass market. The chain stores are stocking what we think is a
minimal number or copies per store. We'd like those to disappear as
soon as possible so they will see that they need to not only order
more of BLOOD MAGIC, but to order more of all our mass markets to
start with.
The idea behind going into mass market paperbacks is simple: we
can usually get copies of our books into virtually every chain
store as opposed to some copies in some of the stores as we do
with the trade paperbacks. We'd love to show them they need lots
of copies in every store.
BLOOD MAGIC should be hitting shelves between September 7 and
September 14. (We'll try to update you on the blog as to exactly
when...and see the "Spot Blood Magic" contest below!)

The second "help" we've posted about in more detail on the blog
(http://juno-books.com/blog/?p=208). To sum up, we are publishing
a beautifully written feminist fantasy, AMBERLIGHT. We never
expected it to be a blockbuster bestseller -- lyrical style and
feminist themes seldom are -- but we met with more resistance
than anticipated. But, we believe in the book so strongly we are
now doing a hardcover edition as well as the mmp. This way we have
a better shot at major reviews and library sales.
We also are soliciting as much advance notice as possible. (Thanks
to those of you who've already responded! I know you are there; I
will email you soon!) We would like blurbs from authors, plenty
of buzz, and many reviews. We have a PDF sampler of the first few
chapters available for download
(http://www.juno-books.com/sampler_amberlight.pdf)
for anyone. We will have printed Advance Readers Copies available
in a couple of weeks. We have PDFs of it we can email you now.
Email editor@juno-books.com with AMBERLIGHT REVIEW COPY as your
subject if you are interested in the PDF or hard copy ARC.
Author Sylvia Kelso is in Australia, but she's available for email
interviews and the like as well.
We want plenty of attention for ALL our books, but with AMBERLIGHT
we suspect that its "problem" is that it is an intelligent book with
a feminist slant. Ahem. We feel that a book like AMBERLIGHT needs to
be available not only in a hardcover edition, but in a low-cost
mass market edition so that people feel they can risk their $6.99
on a book that is somewhat different and out of the ordinary.
But then, that's what we intend to do with Juno Books: publish
fiction that is beyond the ordinary.

CONTEST: We Have Winners!

We've just sent them an email and they will each be selecting a Juno
